Oracle’s AI Backlog Is $664 Billion. Employees Say Their Slack Disappeared Before the Email.

Oracle is signing enormous AI cloud contracts while spending billions on restructuring. On Monday morning, employees were using Reddit to figure out whether they still had jobs.

There are two Oracle stories happening at the same time.

The first is the one investors heard last week. Oracle reported more than $30 billion in new AI cloud contracts during its latest quarter, helping push its total revenue backlog to $664 billion. Revenue grew 30% from a year earlier, cloud infrastructure continued to surge, and the company raised its outlook. AI demand, at least from the sales side of the building, appears to be working.

The second story is unfolding among employees.

Oracle recently disclosed that it expects to spend another $700 million on its fiscal 2026 restructuring plan, bringing the estimated total to roughly $2.8 billion. The plan includes employee severance, contract terminations and other exit costs as the company restructures while pouring money into AI infrastructure.

On Monday morning, employees on an Oracle subreddit began documenting what that looks like from the other end of the org chart.

Workers reported federated logins being disabled around 4 a.m. Eastern, followed by Slack access disappearing in waves. Some said their accounts were deactivated before they received formal notification. One employee described losing Slack and VPN access before the separation email arrived; others were comparing notes about affected organizations, severance and whether teammates were still visible in company systems.

These are employee accounts and have not been independently verified by Corporate Lunch. Multiple posters, however, described similar timelines.

There is no inherent contradiction in a growing company cutting jobs. Businesses invest in some areas, pull back in others and reorganize constantly. Oracle can have an enormous backlog of AI business and simultaneously decide that certain roles, teams or management layers no longer fit the company it is building.

But the two versions of the same transformation sound very different.

In an earnings report, AI creates a $664 billion backlog, record demand and new infrastructure investment.

Inside the company, restructuring can mean opening Slack before sunrise and discovering that Slack no longer opens.

That gap is part of what makes the current AI transformation so difficult to describe. Companies frequently talk about AI as expansion: more capacity, more productivity, more revenue and more opportunity. The organizational side often arrives under a different vocabulary entirely — efficiency, simplification, restructuring, redeployment.

Both sets of words can describe the same company at the same time.

Oracle has not publicly established the full scope of Monday’s cuts, and the numbers circulating among employees on Reddit should not be treated as confirmed. What is confirmed is that the company has expanded its restructuring program while dramatically expanding its AI business. What employees are describing is the human experience of that restructuring arriving in real time.

The business can be growing.

The backlog can be growing.

And somewhere else on the org chart, the login can stop working.

Status: Transformation in progress.
